The Citroen DS 5LS has been shown in Paris to a group of Chinese media, as the brand pushes its ‘Frenchness’ with a C-segment saloon for the world’s biggest market. The 5LS is the result of Citroen’s splitting of its model line-up into two channels: it’s ‘C’ badged cars for more everyday, price-driven offerings and its more premium, design-centric DS models, which have formed a ‘fully fledged brand’ in China. The 5LS is worth a look for UK enthusiasts as ‘a major driver of the DS’s ongoing international development’.
The BMW i3 and Volkswagen XL1 are amongst the contenders for the World Car Design of the Year award as the top 10 finalists in each category of the tenth annual World Car Awards are announced. The full shortlist of nominees for the 2014 World Car Design of the Year Award are: BMW i3; Cadillac CTS; Citröen C4 Picasso; Lexus IS; Mazda3; Mercedes-Benz C-Class; Volkswagen XLR1; Cadillac ELR; Range Rover Sport and Volkswagen XL1. As in previous years for the World Car Design of the Year award, a panel of five design experts reviews all candidates before writing up recommendations for the jury of 69 international automotive journalists to consider.

Nico Rosberg has taken pole position for tomorrow’s 2014 British Grand Prix at Silverstone, but team mate Lewis Hamilton made a complete mess of final qualifying and will start 6th in the race. Hamilton decided that his final run wasn’t quick enough and aborted it because he was a bit down in the first two sectors, but the rest of the track had dried out more, and if he’d carried on with his lap he would have almost certainly have taken pole. Behind Rosberg, Sebastian Vettel put his Red Bull in second place and McLaren’s Jenson Button took third followed by Nico Hulkenberg in the Force India and Kevin Magnussen in the second McLaren.
